Nose Reshaping/Rhinoplasty
Your nose is the second most prominent feature on your face, next to your eyes. Many people are unhappy with the shape or size of their nose and a nose job may be an ideal way to shape a new you.
A rhinoplasty can increase or reduce the size of your nose, straighten a lump on the bridge of the nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. Listening carefully to you, and taking a careful holistic view of your face, Mr Jawad will discuss options available to you.
The nose consists of two basic components: bone and cartilage. The bone supports the upper part of the nose, while the lower part of the nose is supported by cartilage. Inside the nose is a hollow cavity, called the nasal cavity which is divided into two sections or passages by the nasal septum (the bit dividing the two nostrils). Aesthetic or cosmetic rhinoplasty reshapes the cartilage, bone and sometimes soft tissues of the nose, to produce an appearance more pleasing to the patient. More about the procedure
A rhinoplasty is performed under a general anaesthetic. The surgeon often makes an incision inside the rim of the nostrils to avoid any visible scars. However, for more complicated operations an 'open' technique may be used where a small incision is made across the base of the nose on the strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. This 'open' procedure may result in a small scar on the underside of the nose.
During surgery, the soft tissue of the nose is separated from the bone and cartilage underneath the skin. Then the bone may be broken and repositioned and the cartilage reshaped to achieve the look you require. A splint is applied and the nostrils are packed lightly with gauze. If the nose is not being reduced in size, then the nose is only taped while it is healing and stitches are not required.
Dissolving sutures are used which usually take 2 weeks to dissolve. If an incision is made across the skin separating the nostrils, then the stitches may need to be removed.
The operation can take between 1 - 2 hours, but depending on the extent of the procedure, it can take longer. Nose reshaping surgery usually requires an overnight stay but some patients may be suitable as a day case.

Recovery time
Most patients find that they can go back to work one to two weeks after surgery. It will take several weeks before normal activity can be resumed however.
Swelling of the eyes, nose, and sometimes face, will be experienced after a rhinoplasty procedure. The inflammation may last for a couple of weeks. If the nasal bone was broken, some blackening or bruising around the eyes may occur. You will feel some discomfort in your nose, and some patients may experience headaches during the recovery period.

Nose Reshaping Overview
Length of Surgery 1.5 - 2.5 hours
Anaesthesia General Anesthesia. Always performed in a hospital operating theatre as a day case or overnight case.
What to expect immediately after the operationNasal pack to be applied for 12 - 24 hours. Nasal Splint to be worn for 10 days. The patient will experience difficulty breathing through their nose. Dry and crusty mucosa inside the nose. Numbness and swelling to the nose. Black eyes. Extra care should be taken when bending or sneezing.
Infrequent Complications:Please refer to the Department of Health website.
Recovery
- Shower/body bath after 48 hours, covering the wound site under the breast.
- 5 - 10 days until socializing with friends & family and requiring analgesia.
- 2 weeks until patient can return to work and perform normal social engagements including driving.
- 6 weeks until patient can return to gym and perform strenuous activities.
- 3 - 9 months until full settling of swelling and final shape.
Post Surgery Advice
- Use recommended painkillers and antibiotics as prescribed.
- Removal of splint after 1 week.
- Brown micropore tape across nose to reduce swelling every day for 6 weeks post-operation.
- Day or night reapply splint for another 2 weeks especially in male Rhinoplasty.

Ear Correction Overview
Length of Surgery 1.5 - 2.5 hours
Anaesthesia Local Anesthetic or General Anesthetic. Performed as a day case in a hospital operating theatre.
What to expect immediately after the operationEar bandages for a week. Uncomfortable (but not painful) ears. Bulky, turban-like dressing to protect the ears. Avoid contact sports. Lying on back to avoid leaning on nears.
Infrequent Complications: Heamatoma, wound breakdown, asymmetry, wound infection.
Recovery
- Shower or bathe the body after 48 hours, covering the wound site.
- 5 - 10 days until socializing with friends & family and requiring analgesia.
- 2 weeks until patient can return to work and perform normal social engagements including driving.
- 3-4 weeks until bruising and swelling settles. May take longer.
- 6 weeks until patient can return to gym and perform strenuous activities.
- Scarring will continue to improve for the next 12 months with very proactive scar management.
Post Surgery Advice
- Use recommended painkillers as required.
- After a few days, any gauze dressings can be removed and you may need to wear a support strap (like a sweat band) across the ears. It should be worn as directed by your surgeon.
- Avoid contact sports and places where you could be elbowed, etc.
- Touching and Pulling should be avoided for the first 2 - 4 weeks, as your ears will be very sensitive.
- Your surgeon will advise when to begin exercising and normal activities.
- Contact your surgeon immediately if you notice any signs of infection or if you experience bleeding or a sudden increase in pain.

Eye bag Removal, London
The eyes can indicate age more than any other part of the face. They also show our emotion, and we use them to communicate with others. Eyelid surgery can have amazing effects on your overall appearance. The process of blepharoplasty (more commonly known as eyebag removal surgery or eye lid surgery) removes some of the excess skin and tissue area around the eye to create a fresher, more youthful look. Suitable Candidates
Any one or combination of the following conditions could indicate that you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery:
- Excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids
- Loose skin hanging down from the upper eyelids, perhaps impairing vision
- A puffy appearance to the upper eyelids, making the eyes look tired
- Excess skin and fine, 'crepe paper type' wrinkles of the lower eyelids
- Bags and dark circles under the eyes
- Lower eyelid droopiness
The Eye bag Removal Procedure
During the upper lid blepharoplasty the surgeon will create small incisions in the natural folds of the upper eyelid, and for lower lid surgery, incisions are made just below the lashes on the lower eyelid. Excess skin and tissue can then be removed and the area will be closed with very fine stitching. The fine stitches aim to minimise scarring, but fine lines can be expected at first, though they will fade significantly with time.
Blepharoplasty can be performed under local anaesthetic, though a general anaesthetic can sometimes be more suitable. You will usually stay in hospital overnight, but you should arrange to be off work for a week to allow the area to heal after eye lid surgery. London clinic Nip N Tuck's surgeons recommend that strenuous activity or sport should be avoided for at least six weeks. Some tenderness and minor swelling can be expected but will reduce rapidly and can be eased with painkillers.
Eyelid surgery cannot remove dark circles under the eyes caused by dark pigmentation or by thin, translucent skin. Nor can it lift sagging eyebrows or get rid of crow's feet. Your surgeon and an eye specialist will advise if this operation is appropriate for you.
Pre-operative preparation If you are a smoker, it is highly recommended to stop smoking well in advance of eyelid surgery. London clinic Nip N Tuck's surgeons note that smoking can impair your ability to heal. Aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs can cause increased bleeding, so you should avoid taking these medications for a period of time before surgery.
Possible Complication of Eye bag Removal
- Your vision may be temporarily blurred, but this should improve after a few days
- Difficulty closing your eyes when sleeping, but this is rare
- Sensitivity to light - this will improve after a few weeks
- Your lower eyelids may sag
- Some pain is common with most operations, but you will be prescribed painkillers for a few days following your operation
- Minor swelling, bruising and tenderness, which should fade quickly, but may last up to a month. This can be eased with painkillers
- It is difficult to predict how your eyes will look after surgery. They may end up looking asymmetrical.
This is not a definitive list, and symptoms will vary with each patient undergoing eyelid surgery. London clinic Nip N Tuck's surgeons note that if you have glaucoma or dry eyes that don't produce enough tears, there is a higher risk of complications following treatment. Post-operative Recovery for the eyebag removal procedure Rest is recommended for the first few days following the operation. It is also preferable to sleep in a semi-reclining position. This prevents fluid from accumulating in the face, thus reducing the tendency to swelling. Secretions around the eyes can be cleaned with warm water.
The swelling and the bruising vary from person to person. Generally, they will disappear within two weeks after eyelid surgery. London clinic Nip n Tuck's surgeon's advise that there is usually less bruising and swelling if you avoid strenuous physical activity, bending your head down, stressful situations and the consumption of alcohol.
You should contact your surgeon if you are experiencing severe pain that is not relieved by your medication; excessive swelling of the eyelids; or a change in your vision. Your face may look and feel tender and bruised and it may take up to two weeks for this swelling to settle. You should be able to go home the same day or the day after the operation.
You'll need to go back to have your stitches removed four to seven days after the operation. You should be able to return to work a week after the operation. For the first six weeks after the operation, do not lift anything heavy or do anything strenuous. Most people resume normal activities within two to three weeks.
After the Operation
After the eye bag removal operation your surgeon will arrange for you to have follow-up visits to check on your progress. Complete healing will normally take four to six months. The scars on the eyelids usually heal very well and are almost invisible. However, the part of the ear which is situated beyond the eyelids, in the crows feet area, may take longer to become soft and pale. Gentle massaging of the lower eyelid and the corners of the eye may be suggested in order to reduce the swelling and speed up softening of the skin. Do not hesitate to ask your surgeon about any concerns you may have regarding the healing process.
The results of eyelid surgery last for a long time. The effects are sometimes permanent, but the effect may be reduced as you get older or if you put on weight.

What to expect immediately after the operation Initially, your eyes will be sensitive to light and naturally there will be some minor swelling, bruising and tenderness. The swelling and bruising will vary from person to person, but will typically disappear within 2 weeks.
Recovery
- Following your procedure, it is important to rest a lot for the first few days.
- It is preferable to sleep in a reclining position so as to prevent fluid from accumulating in the face, thus reducing the tendancy for swelling.
- No strenuous activity or sport should be undertaken for at least 6 weeks after the operation.
- Stressful situations and alcohol consumption should also be avoided.
- It is recommended to not smoke during recovery as this can impair your ability to heal as effectively.
- Stitches removed four to seven days after the operation.
- You should be able to return to work 1 week after the operation.
- Complete healing will take between 4 - 6 months.
